Gon Freecss (Japanese: ゴン=フリークス, Hepburn: Gon Furīkusu) is the protagonist from Yoshihiro Togashi's manga series Hunter × Hunter. A young boy, Gon discovers that his father, who left him at a young age, is actually a world-renowned Hunter, a licensed professional who specializes in fantastical pursuits such as locating rare or unidentified animal species, treasure hunting, surveying unexplored enclaves, or hunting down lawless individuals. Gon departs on a journey to become a Hunter and eventually find his father. Along the way, Gon meets various other Hunters and encounters the paranormal. Togashi originally created Gon as an ideal son. However, the way he saw his backstory in retrospect made him change his characterization as Gon instead comes across as a selfish teenager for the way he starts his quest. Several voice actors have voiced Gon across his appearances in animated adaptations of Hunter × Hunter and has often appeared in film adaptations. Critical response to Gon's character has been well received with critics praising his character development, design and several actions across the series that made him unique.
