Ken "Snakehips" Johnson & His West Indian Dance Band were a British jazz and dance band active during the 1930s and 1940s. Led by Ken "Snakehips" Johnson, who was of Sierra Leonean and Scottish descent, the band played a mix of swing, Jamaican mento, Cuban and other Caribbean musical styles. They were known for their vibrant live performances and had a significant impact on the British dance music scene at the time. Unfortunately, their career was cut short when Johnson and several band members tragically died during a German bombing raid in 1941.
