Márkos Vamvakáris was a Greek musician, songwriter, and bouzouki player, born on May 10, 1905, in a small village in Greece. He is considered one of the pioneers of rebetiko music, a genre rooted in the urban working-class culture of Greece. Vamvakáris' powerful voice and unique bouzouki playing style made him one of the most influential rebetiko artists of the 20th century. His songs often depicted the struggles of the Greek people, capturing the essence of their daily lives. Vamvakáris continued to perform and record music until his death in 1972, leaving behind a remarkable musical legacy.
