About Full Steam

"Full Steam" was the second single taken from David Gray's eighth studio album Draw the Line. The song is a duet between Gray and Annie Lennox. Originally planned to be officially released as a single on 23 November 2009, the single release was delayed with a new release date set as 28 December 2009, although no singles were to be found at such date. A music video featuring Gray and Lennox was filmed for the song, as it was eventually only released as a download single with all proceeds from the sale of the single going to Children In Need. Only physical single releases were for promotional releases only. The song was written and produced by Gray in his North London Studio, The Church, which previously belonged to Eurythmics. When Gray invited Lennox to sing the duet, Lennox reprimanded him for not changing the carpets. The track was described by The Irish Times as "a broad political thing". Gray and Lennox performed the song on Later... with Jools Holland to promote its single release. The music video for the song premiered when it was uploaded on Annie Lennox's Official YouTube Channel on 19 November 2009.

All our lives we've dreamed about it
Just to find that it was never real
This sure ain't no great Valhalla
Coming closer each turn of the wheel
Forlorn adrift on seas of beige
In this our Golden Age
Bullied suckered pimped and patronized
Every day your tawdry little lives
So loose your head
And step within
The silence deafening
Now you saw it coming
And I saw it coming
We all saw it coming
But we still bought it
Now you saw it coming
And I saw it coming but still
Running full steam ahead
In and out of consciousness
It breaks my heart to see you like this
Crying wringing hands and cursing fate
Always so little far too late
It's 3am I'm wide awake
There's still one call to make
Now you saw it coming
And I saw it coming
We all saw it coming
But we still bought it
Now you saw it coming
And I saw it coming
We all saw it coming
But we still bought it
Running full steam ahead
Running full steam ahead
Running full steam
Now you saw it coming
And I saw it coming and I
Running full steam
Now you
And I
We all saw it coming
But we still bought it
We all saw it coming
But we Still bought it
