Yard of Blonde Girls

Jeff Buckley

About Yard of Blonde Girls

"Yard of Blonde Girls" is a song written by sisters Audrey Clark of the Boston band the 360s and Lori Kramer of the Paper Squares, who were performing together in the late nineties as Pendulum Floors. Inger Lorre contributed additional lyrics on the second verse, which were written about singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley. Lorre had a relationship with Buckley, but never told him that the verse was about him. Buckley and Lorre recorded a demo version of the song in 1996. The song is a tribute to Lori Kramer's childhood friend, who committed suicide in 1993. It is most notably found as a cover on Jeff Buckley's posthumous double album Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk (1998). It was also released on Lorre's album Transcendental Medication (1999) and recorded by Micah P. Hinson on the tribute album Dream Brother: The Songs of Tim and Jeff Buckley (2006). The song has also been covered by Alpha Rev, Widespread Panic, Déportivo and Incubus in their live performances.

Through the yard, through the yard of blond girls.
Through the river and the sea.
Gold sharks glittering.
A tree of white breaks the earth.
The streets where Lola played.
Very sexy, very sexy. Okay, okay.
Fear we may come.
Fear we may come.
Fear we may come.
Fear we may come.
So run, run, run, run, run, run, run.

It's in your heart, it's in your art, your beauty.
Even in this world of lies, there's purity,
You've got innocence in your eyes.
Even in this world of lies, you're still hopeful.
Very sexy. Okay, okay.
Fear we may come.
Fear we may come.
Fear we may come.
Fear we may come.
So run, run, run, run, run, run, run.

Jeff Buckley

Jeffrey Scott "Jeff" Buckley (November 17, 1966 – May 29, 1997), raised as Scotty Moorhead, was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. He was the son of Tim Buckley, also a musician. After a decade as a session guitarist in Los Angeles, Buckley amassed a following in the early 1990s by playing cover songs at venues in Manhattan's East Village, such as Sin-é, gradually focusing more on his own material. After rebuffing much interest from record labels and his father's manager Herb Cohen, he signed with Columbia, recruited a band, and recorded what would be his only studio album, Grace. more »
