Bud Isaacs

Forrest "Bud" Isaacs (1928–2016) was an American steel guitarist who made country music history in 1954 as the first person to play pedal steel guitar on a hit record. He is known for his playing his innovative technique on Webb Pierce's 1954 recording of a song called "Slowly" which became a major hit for Pierce and was one of the most-played country songs of 1954. Isaacs was the first to push a pedal while the strings were still sounding to create a unique bending of notes from below up to join an existing note; this was not possible on older lap steel guitars.  Watch: New Singing Lesson Videos Can Make Anyone A Great Singer

I’ve heard about the songs
That they sing about the south
I’ve heard the guitar picking
Till I blew out the mouth
Cause I’m a Boogie Billy
And I want you to know
I can boogie all night
And still boogie some more

I’m a hot Boogie Billy
Everybody can see
A real Boogie Billy
From Tennessee

My mammy and my pappy
They brought me up right
And when I ain’t singing
I go boogie all night
All my guitar picking
Sounds just alike
Cause all these years I’ve done it
Since I was just a little tyke

I’m a growing Boogie Billy
Everybody can see
A real Boogie Billy
From Tennessee

I’ve been to Chattanooga
And saw the old choo choo
Been down through Atlanta
And they locked me up too
Went up to Nashville
The barn dance to see
And sure enough it made a Boogie Billy of me

I’m a hot Boogie Billy
Everybody can see
A real Boogie Billy
From Tennessee

When I listen to the rocking
Of a Boogie beat
A tator’s sticking out my ears
And eating ham hock meat
Black-eyed peas I swallow by the peck
With a slab of sow belly
That is greasy, by heck

A growing Boogie Billy
Everybody can see
A real Boogie Billy
From Tennessee

So if you’ll pass the biscuits
And the turnip greens
I’ll tell you what a Boogie Billy
Really means
He’s a corn-fed William
From chitlin town
He boogies more ways
Than a circus clown

A darn Boogie Billy
Everybody can see
A real Boogie Billy
From Tennessee
