About Shin Takarajima

"Shin Takarajima" (Japanese: 新宝島, "New Treasure Island") (Japanese pronunciation: [ɕintakaɾadʑima]) is a song by Japanese band Sakanaction. The band's frontman, Ichiro Yamaguchi, developed its lyrics and composition. Shin Takarajima is the band's 11th single, released on September 15, 2015 by Victor Entertainment. The song was the band's first single after a year of inactivity following the release of "Sayonara wa Emotion", which temporarily ceased activities in light of bassist Ami Kusakari's pregnancy. The song was featured in the soundtrack for the live-action film Bakuman and departs from the style of Sakanaction's other albums, featuring pop influences, together with an alternative rock and dance music style. The title of the song was borrowed from Osamu Tezuka's Shin Takarajima, whose work Yamaguchi came across while researching manga for musical inspiration. The CD jacket on both the normal release and the initial limited edition displayed typography of the title; releases of the deluxe limited edition featured artwork of Bakuman character Miho Azuki, drawn by the series' artist, Takeshi Obata. The single was highly critically acclaimed, with some critics praising the sound, rhythm, and melodic elements as "a new direction for the band," and others finding it to be a return to the band's roots. Shin Takarajima placed charted number one on Billboard Japan Hot 100, as well as ranking as high as 9th place on the Oricon Singles Chart.

Sakanaction

Sakanaction (サカナクション, Sakanakushon), stylised as sakanaction, are a Japanese rock band from Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. Their music is a fusion of alternative rock, electronic, pop, and new wave styles, and is thus difficult to classify under one category. The band consists of five members: Ichiro Yamaguchi, Motoharu Iwadera, Ami Kusakari, Emi Okazaki, and Keiichi Ejima. The name Sakanaction is a portmanteau of "sakana" ("fish") and "action". In the band's own words, their name reflects a wish to act quickly and lightly, like fish in the water, without fearing changes in the music scene. They are enjoying increasing popularity, having hit mainstream success with their records consistently achieving positions within the Top 10 on Japan's Oricon charts. more »
