About Help Me

"Help Me" is a song written by Larry Gatlin. A country gospel song, the lyrics tell the story of a world-weary and tired man pleading for guidance and reassurance from God. The song became most famous in a version by Elvis Presley. In 1974, Presley released the song as part of a double A-sided single with "If You Talk in Your Sleep." "Help Me" became the side promoted to country radio, and the song reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart on the week of August 10, 1974. ("If You Talk In Your Sleep" reached No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100, also during the summer of 1974.) Previously, "Help Me" was recorded by: Kris Kristofferson, in 1972 on his album Jesus Was a Capricorn and subsequently released it on a single as the other side to "Why Me". Lord, Help me walk
Another mile, just one more mile,
I'm tired of walkin' all alone.

Lord, Help me smile
Another smile, just one more smile,
I know I just can't make it on my own.

I never thought I needed help before,
I thought that I could do things by myself.
Now I know I just can't take it any more.
With a humble heart, on bended knee,
I'm beggin' You, please, Help Me.

Come down from Your golden
Throne to me, to lowly me,
I need to feel the touch of Your tender hand.

Remove the chains of darkness
And let me see, Lord let me see,
Just where I fit into your master plan.

I never thought I needed help before,
I thought that I could do things by myself.
Now I know I just can't take it any more.
With a humble heart, on bended knee,
I'm beggin' You, please, Help Me.
