About Crying

"Crying in the Rain" is a song by the English hard rock band Whitesnake. The song was originally released on the group's 1982 album Saints & Sinners, but was re-recorded on the group's 1987 multi-platinum album Whitesnake. The song was inspired by singer David Coverdale's divorce. The original version of "Crying in the Rain" is very blues-based and features a short guitar solo at the beginning played by Bernie Marsden. The original song also has a bit slower tempo compared to the re-recorded version, which had a much heavier and faster sound, influenced by heavy metal. The guitar solo at the beginning of the original was also removed from this version. David Coverdale has stated in interviews that "John (Sykes) hated blues". The re-recorded version (sometimes titled "Crying in the Rain '87") was also released as a one-track promo single. The song has been a part of Whitesnake's live performances since its release in 1982, although it is the 1987 version that Whitesnake has kept performing, since 1987. Also, since Whitesnake's reformation in 2002, the song has been extended by a drum solo in the middle of the song.

I smell trouble
And where there's smoke
There must be fire
You sow your seeds of jealousy
And the flames
Just keep on growing higher

This can't be love anymore,
I know, 'cause I've done
Everything I can
And all that you can do
I pour gasoline
On a burning man

Tears of rage, tears of pain,
Burning my eyes,
I realize, I'm crying
Crying, I'm crying
Bitter tears falling like rain

Lies
I can never understand,
You play your cards under the table,
Dealing me a losing hand

Tears of rage, tears of pain,
Burning my eyes,
I realize, I'm crying
Crying, I'm crying
Bitter tears falling like rain
Crying, always crying, crying
Bitter tears falling like rain

I want to be there
When your demons come to call

I'm gonna finish what you started, baby,
Watch you burn little house down,
Burn it down, down, down

Then I'll see you crying,
Crying, crying
Bitter tears falling like rain

The band's 1987 self-titled album was their most commercially successful worldwide, and contained three of their most recognisable songs, "Here I Go Again", "Still of the Night" and "Is This Love". In 1988, Whitesnake was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Group. In 2005, Whitesnake was named the 85th greatest hard ro… more »
