About Rise

"Rise" is a song by English singer Gabrielle. It was written by Gabrielle, Ollie Dagois and Ferdy Unger-Hamilton and produced by Jonny Dollar for her same-titled third studio album (1999). Notable for a rare authorised use of a Bob Dylan sample, it takes extensively from his 1973-song "Knockin' on Heaven's Door", which was produced for the soundtrack of Sam Peckinpah's western drama film Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973). Dylan liked "Rise" so much that he allowed Gabrielle to use the sample for free, while receiving a co-writer credit for providing the song's chord progression and vocal sample. Released as the second single from the album, the song reached number one on the UK Singles Chart for two weeks in January 2000, becoming her second chart-topper. "Rise" also reached number one in Ireland and charted highly in Austria, Iceland, Norway and New Zealand, where it reached number two in April and May 2000 and ended the year as the country's third best-selling single.

I know that it's over
But I can't believe we're through
They say that time is a healer
And I'm better without you
It's gonna take time, I know
But I'll get over over you

Look at my life
Look at my heart
I have seen them fall apart
Now I'm ready to rise again
Just look at my hopes
Look at my dreams
I'm building bridges from these scenes
Now I'm ready to rise again

Caught up in my thinking, yeah
Like a prisoner in my mind
You pose so many questions
But the truth was hard to find
I better think twice, I know
That I'll get over you

Look at my life
Look at my heart
I have seen them fall apart
Now I'm ready to rise again
Just look at my hopes
Look at my dreams
I'm building bridges from these scenes
Now I'm ready to rise again

Much time has passed between us
Do you still think of me at all
My world of broken promises
You won't catch me when I fall

Look at my life
Look at my heart
I have seen them fall apart
Now I'm ready to rise again
Just look at my hopes
Look at my dreams
I'm building bridges from these scenes
Now I'm ready to rise again

Look at my life
Yes, I'm gonna rise
Gonna make it alright
I'm gonna be who I wanna be, yeah baby
I'm gonna make it alright
I'm gonna make it alright
