About Make It

"Make It" is the first song on Aerosmith's self-titled debut album, Aerosmith. It was released as a promo single for the album, but got little to no airplay. The song begins with the protagonist welcoming people to a show and tells them he has something they should know, the info in question is to make it and not break it, which means to succeed in achieving your dreams and not letting anything stop you (much like Aerosmith in their early club days performing up to three shows a day trying to get a record deal). In the authorized Stephen Davis band memoir Walk This Way, Tyler speaks at length about the origins of the songs: "Make It" - "I wrote 'Make It' in a car driving from New Hampshire to Boston. There's that hill you come to and see the skyline of Boston, and I was sitting in the backseat thinking, What would be the greatest thing to sing for an audience if we were opening up for the... Stones? What would the lyrics say?"The song was re-recorded for the 2007 video game Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.

Good evening people, welcome to the show
Got something here I want you all to know
When laughin' people bring on primal screams
You got to think of what it's gonna take to make your dreams
Make it
Don't break it
I said make it
Don't break it
Do then ya feel like the world's coming down on you
You know that history repeats itself
But you just learned so by somebody else
You know you do, you gotta think up fast
You gotta figure what it's gonna take to make it last
Make it
Don't fake it
Said make it
Don't fake it
Better weather, pull yourself together
Don't be catchin' the blues
Better weather, pull yourself together
What have you got to lose
You're only paying your dues
If you're gone I'll get you anyway
Although you know what you've been going through
