The chorus: The song has become a pop standard, performed by many artists, including The Lennon Sisters 1960 (Sing Twelve Great Hits - Dot Records DLP 3292), Bing Crosby, Gene Autry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Harry James, Slim Whitman, Vera Lynn, Burl Ives, Clint Eastwood and Jim Reeves. Bing Crosby recorded the song for Decca Records on July 11, 1938 and his version is the only one to reach the charts in the USA achieving the No. 3 spot in 1938. Crosby recorded the song again for his 1954 album Bing: A Musical Autobiography. The song was used in the 1939 film Mexicali Rose starring Gene Autry.

James Travis "Jim" Reeves (August 20, 1923 – July 31, 1964) was an American country and popular music singer-songwriter. With records charting from the 1950s to the 1980s, he became well known as a practitioner of the Nashville sound (a mixture of older country-style music with elements of popular music). Known as "Gentleman Jim", his songs continued to chart for years after his death. Reeves died at age 40 in the crash of a private airplane. He is a member of both the Country Music and Texas Country Music Halls of Fame. more »
