The Living End

About Wake Up

"Wake Up" is the second single from The Living End's fourth album, State of Emergency. It was released on 18 February 2006, in Australia. The song was both popular on Australian and New Zealand radio stations. It also peaked at number five in the Australian ARIA Singles Chart. The song was also used on the 40 Hour Famine DVD for 2006. Wake Up was featured on the Triple J Hottest 100 for 2006, reaching #53. This kept safe The Living End's record of featuring in every Hottest 100 countdown since 1997. However, there was no song by The Living End in the Hottest 100 for 2007, although their cover of the Cold Chisel song "Rising Sun" was in the list of songs that listeners could vote for. "Wake Up" was released in the UK as a downloadable single on 30 July 2007.

I've been buried in the sand,
I've come down with no place to land
I don't need you to understand it's not what I had planned

All the hunger, all the yearning
With the lifeline, that you're burning
Poison lessons that you're learning
The road ahead is turning

[Chorus]
Suicidal education (wake up, wake up)
It got sold to our generation (wake up, wake up)
Wake up to the, manipulation (wake up, wake up)
Wake up to the situation (wake up, wake up)
Suicidal education (wake up)

Stick together, side by side
We no longer, need to hide
From the darkness, into the light
Now is your time

I need something to know the pain
Forget me and forget my name
Waited for the, time to arrive
No one gets out of here alive

[Chorus]

Wake up, wake up
Wake up, wake up
Wake up, wake up
Wake up, wake up
Wake up,
Wake up

I've been buried in the sand,
I've come down with no place to land
I don't need you to understand it's not what I had planned

Suicidal education
It got sold to our generation

Wake up to the, manipulation
Wake up to the, situation
Suicidal education

Suicidal education
It got sold to our generation
