In the Summer of 2021, I went to visit my family
It was super dope
And one of the things we did was cliff jump
I fell off a cliff
Check out this video
Yeah, I mean, I went cliff jumping and then
Tried to do a backflip from like a ridiculous height
You can't see it, but like the bottom up there
Like the top up there, it was probably 45, 50 feet
I hit the water
I thought my lungs had collapsed
I thought I was dead
Like I thought my liver had broken or whatever
Like it hurt so much
And I couldn't take a full breath
For like two hours after it happened
Like I was barely swimming
So yeah, it put a little fear of death in me
And I was like, I got to communicate
Before I do something more stupid and die outright
So yeah, I wanted to record the album
Are you familiar with Kanye West?
Yeah
Who isn't
Oh, man. Fucking anti-Semitic bastard
Life of Pablo
Heard of the album?
Yes
Listened to it?
Bits and pieces
Yeah
I didn't love it when it came out
It kind of grew on me the more I listened to it
But it was interesting
So Life of Pablo he put out in early 2016
And then he just kept re-uploading songs
So he put out the album
Oh, I remember that
Yeah
Yeah
And it was like kind of the first time it had happened
Where he was like, I'm not satisfied
This is half-baked
He posted on Twitter, "I fixed Wolves" or whatever
Which is one of his songs
And yeah
And he just kept re-uploading stuff for months
So I was like, I heard about that
And I was like, okay, if you can do that
Why not just like make an album really fast
And then iterate on it, right?
So I came home
I called up my friend Amrut
Who's a weird-ass music producer
Not that he produces weird music
But he's just a weird-ass human being
And also knows how to produce music
And then brought him into my backyard
Pulled out my lyrics
And we had like four or five hours
And I told him like, hey, I want to make an album
Or an EP really, in five hours
And he was like
Prior to meeting up or whatever
I had texted him and I was like
Do you want to work on this
And he's like, yeah
And then he showed up
I was like, "five hours"
He was like, "we can probably do one song in five hours"
Like if you have like a really good concept
And you know what you want
You've got lyrics written
Then we can probably do one song in five hours
And I was like, "oh, we're going to do an EP"
And he was like, "we can probably do one song"
And I was like, "we're going to do an EP"
So we recorded six songs in, yeah, in five hours
Each of them was one take
Like just kind of ran with it
And then, yeah, ended up with an eight-song EP
Put it out that night and just have
Kind of like re-uploaded it here and there
Improved on certain tracks
Yeah, but that's what this is
Yeah
