BAND-MAID is a J-Rock band (Japanese Rockmusic band)The band, originally known as “BAND-MAID®”, was founded in July 2013. Singer-guitarist Miku Kobato, a former Japanese maid café employee, is determined to form a band in which she puts the image of a maid alongside rock music. Kobato recruited solo guitarist Tono Kanami during an internet search. Tono previously worked as a singer-songwriter and recommended his occasional backing drummer, Hirosze Akane, to the new band. And Hirosze recommended bassist Misa, with whom he attended a music school. [6] On July 24, 2013, they held their first performance as part of the PP Audition at the Osaka Deep Concert Hall, where they performed as a quartet and sang Kobato. [7] They later decided to hire another singer, and after the auditions, Acumi Saiki was chosen. [8] Their first performance as a five-member ensemble took place during the P Festival at the Shibuya-AX Concert Hall on August 22, 2013. [7] Band-Maid has been performing regularly in Tokyo since its inception. [9] In January 2014, the band released their debut mini-album, Maid in Japan, with musicians Fukui Masahiko [10] and Akucu Kentaró [11]. In August 2014, the maxi single “Ai to dzsónecu no Matador” was released. Their second mini-album, New Beginning, was released in November 2015. [12] They hit the charts for the first time with the album; it ranked sixty-fourth on Japan's Oricon weekly album chart. [13] The band held a three-stop tour in Tokyo in February 2016 to promote the album, culminating in a sold-out concert on February 14. [14] They held their first overseas performance in March 2016 as part of Sakura-Con in Seattle. [5] [15] In May 2016, the band released their third mini-album, Brand New Maid, under the auspices of Nippon Crown sub-label Crown Stones. [16] The album ranked nineteenth on Japan's Oricon weekly album chart. [17] They held their first world tour in October-November 2016, touring Mexico, Hong Kong and six European countries.
