Billy Paulson is a Legendry, Songwriter, Singer, Community Activist and Radioman. He is married to Maureen and they have four children. Billy stems from a family of ten children born of poor parents. His father was an asthma-sufferer who due to his illness became unemployed and his demise was at a time when Billy was only fourteen years old. There were no funds available at all for him to pursue his school career and his unpleasant and difficult background as a young boy growing up in Tiervlei later renamed Ravensmead, encouraged him to go out and make a difference. In 1976 he was employed at a clothing store called Markham doing deliveries, responsible for cleaning the toilet and serving tea. He became one of the first “none white” salesmen for this well-known clothing retail group in Parow and was later promoted to the position of Assistant Manager. Thereafter he worked as an Estate Agent and with the income he earned he was able to finance Development Centres in his community. In 1985 he moved house from Cape Town to Eersterus, Pretoria. In his involvement with community work he established YDO (Youth Development Outreach) in 1990. YDO is still very actively affecting the lives of thousands of young people from different cultures and communities in Tshwane. Billy always had a desire to acquire more than just singing. In 1974 he composed his first song called she’s gone’ and his second named ‘Stop the rain”. A year later, after his conversion, he sang in churches and musical evenings. In 1980 he developed the vision to witness the South African Music industry develop and grow - where original local music of the highest standard be developed, recorded and exposed to an international level. He later composed songs for other well-known artists such as Sonja Herholdt and Neville Nash and numerous other well - known national and international artists.
