A second generation musician, vocalist Joshua Kennedy moved to the Southwest from Wheaton, Missouri as a teen, pursuing an opportunity to tech for one of his favorite bands and also attend the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences. A few years, a few bands, and a bevy of experiences later, he met drummer Chico Diaz, a fixture in the Phoenix music scene. Diaz and Kennedy discovered they shared many similar musical sensibilities, both were influenced by rock greats Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Tom Petty and Foo Fighters. With the addition of a bassist, they rounded out the yet unnamed trio, and the band began writing tracks and rehearsing non-stop. One night while watching a music documentary about The Doors, they heard Ray Manzarek say, “watch out, Jim [Morrison] is in one of his black moods”. That inspired them to write a song called 'Here's To Black Moods' - the name evolved from there. Working with producer Jim Kaufman, The Black Moods released their self-titled first album in 2012. With growing fan bases in southern Arizona and Southwest Missouri, the band traveled non-stop between the two regions, and played gigs in various locations including L.A.’s The Viper Room, House of Blues, Loaded and Whisky A Go-Go. In 2015 they signed with Century Media (now Another Century) and worked with Kaufman again to release their EP ‘Medicine’ in 2016. The Moods toured with artists including Robby Krieger of The Doors, Gemini Syndrome, Butcher Babies, Adelitas Way and Citizen Zero, among others. In 2017, bassist Jordan Hoffman joined the band. He was the The Moods’ missing link, and the trio has never played or written better. Since their formation, The Black Moods have honed their chops performing hundreds of dates at festivals, club shows, and even prison performances (as invited guests, of course). Whether headlining for more than 3,000 fans, performing an acoustic set for a private party or playing on a patio overlooking the Sea of Cortez, the band puts their heart and soul into every performance, serving up their homegrown blend of rock and roll. 2018 has big things in store for The Black Moods. They recently finished recording a six song EP produced by Johnny “Johnny K” Karkazis (Plain White T’s, Pop Evil, Disturbed). Their first single, “Bella Donna”, will be released June 1st, with a week-long celebration of shows at the Circus Mexicus festival in Rocky Point, Mexico. The Moods will perform additional summer dates at the Mile High Festival in Prescott, AZ, B
