Lets consider this work by Gustav Holst as our new national anthem. The problem with the current piece, is that in the lyrics, our country is not mentioned at all. We could also consider Jerusalem by Hubert Parry. The Scots,Welsh,Irish have much more interesting material for their national songs. We could run a national competition open to all students at Uni studying music. Write a killer tune with really inspiring words to lift our country up. This contest could run for say 1 or 2 years. Get down to the best 25 songs, give these songs national air time on BBC radio. stations 2 or 3. Via a national poll to the BBC get down to the best 2 songs for a grand final on TV. more »
