Those were the good days,
But as we got older, life got in the way
And I stopped returning your calls

And I didn't know how to break the fall, so I never made the call

All I could think of, was calling you

At a common friend's wedding in some reception line

You said "I've missed you so, but I totally understand.
Because if I knew what you were living through, I'd give you the command
To put an end to your situation without paying any heed
And to restart a new life. there is no need
To proceed and live a life just because you had agreed
On "forever" a long time ago, but not all "forevers" succeed
But i also understand, that you're not ready until you're ready
To face what you know, and do what you're already
About to do, and I'm so proud of you
For choosing yourself, even if it took you a while to do.
And I'm sorry that I couldn't see the reality behind your posts
And I'm sorry that I didn't proactively reach out when it might have mattered the most
And I'm sorry that I assumed we'd just drifted apart
And I'm sorry that you had to deal with this alone, but this is a start
Because when you come here, I will hug you so tight
And we haven't spoke in years, but that's alright
Because the kettle will be on, and we will chat through the night
And you can vent all you want, but after that we might

Oh I can't wait to reminisce the old times when we had no care
When a stolen packet of Maggi masala was the most scandalous affair
But with this I'm also starting to be aware
That life's ups and downs is exactly where
I can understand who I can truly call "mine"
And that some friendships even time can't undermine
And as long as you're there for me, I think I'll be fine
But thank heavens, we're old enough now to drink some wine.
