Jack Dawkins

Jack Dawkins, better known as the Artful Dodger, is a character in Charles Dickens's 1838 novel Oliver Twist. The Dodger is a pickpocket, so called for his skill and cunning in that occupation. He is the leader of the gang of child criminals on the streets of London, trained by the elderly Fagin. The term has become an idiom describing a person with skilful deception. more »

My own worst critic, OK, I admit it
Sometimes I finished lists just to say I did it
Pressure makes diamonds, I tighten up the screws
But now the battery's dead, I think I blew a fuse
Ironman athlete, blood, sweat, and tears
No meat, caffeine, days off or beers
Scraping at my soul the meaning's on the paper
But I left my gas tank with nothing more than vapors I'm
Trying to stand strong, man I can't quit
But I'm straight stuck, I can't do shit
Crave freedom and I find it when I'm spitting
But when I'm just a wisp, can't give away the wisdom
I gotta fill up the journal
Like a Reese's cup, that good shit is internal
Engine on fire, please proceed with caution
And I'm back to square one, I need new options
I know the pattern, this is all old trauma
Crazy sensitive, so I struggle with the drama
Go insane when my brain can't refrain from the games
I'm seasick, I gotta maintain
I train every day, and I can run fast
Doesn't matter if a storm's in the forecast
I feel panic if I think about a day off
But when I take care of me, it pays off
I train every day, and I can run fast
Doesn't matter if a storm's in the forecast
I feel panic if I think about a day off
But when I take care of me, it pays off
Paths forward only found by the ones who look
So don't let perfection keep away the good
Self-worth is not the same as your outcomes
If I thought that, y'all would never get an album
I would never take a risk, I would squander all my gifts
Oversimplifying but I think you get the gist
I exist to persist, find the love that I missed
But I got to love me first, ain't that about a bitch
I wanna right my wrongs
Take my whole damn life and pour it into songs
Making the hay, riding the waves, living my life
throwing the dice, taking the fight, can't do it twice, get you a slice
YEAH
I train every day, and I can run fast
Doesn't matter if a storm's in the forecast
I feel panic if I think about a day off
But when I take care of me, it pays off
I train every day, and I can run fast
Doesn't matter if a storm's in the forecast
I feel panic if I think about a day off
But when I take care of me, it pays off
