Evan Hill

Evan Hill (January 20, 1919 – April 10, 2010) was an American journalist and professor at the University of Connecticut (UConn), where he chaired the journalism department from 1965 to 1984. A stern but beloved teacher, Hill exerted major influence on Connecticut journalism. He mentored many editors and reporters in the region and served as a director and trustee of The Day. Been patient ever since a young kid waiting for my mom to get home
It was never safe with my dad and that's why I tried never to be alone
The older I got the more and more he tried to get me on his side
My brother always knew what was going on cause he watched with distant eyes
See my brother never liked my dad so when he watched from afar it was with despise
My brother knew that whenever my dad said he loved him it was a lie

Every time I think of my mom, my brother, and my dad I think about that one night
The one night that both my mom and my brother could've died
It was a cold night and my brother and I were just tryna go home
We was at my dad's house and my mom was supposed to come pick us up but nah nah it ain't that easy no more
See my dad did a lot of drugs and his brain didn't work like yours does
He loved me so much he thought a life with just me and him would be more fun
He didn't like the fact that I had to leave out the door so
He walked to his room and walked back out but this time he was holding a gun

My mom had to call the police after my brother sent her a text
Thank God he had his phone on him cause they both coulda been dead
Now I have to live the rest of my life with that image in my head
I feel like I'm turning into some sort of form of my dad every time I'm stressed

He's the reason I think I'm a disgrace every time I try to get lit

Every time I hurt the people I love I blame it on my dad
He taught me not to take responsibility and look how I fired back
I can't possibly be worse than him but I'm only seventeen
I swear she had nightmares every time she dreamt of me
My thoughts won't stop and that's why I'm writing this song
If it helps other people out then I guess I can't do no wrong
I wrote a song about me killing myself by being hung and
I know I've gotten better cause now I deal with pain with numb hands
