These bodies are trapped in a world of the flesh
Aging and sinking down into death
This is the realm of matter, not mind
But there's another world, far high above this fleshy existence
A world in which our eye is overwhelmed by sensations our brains can't descry
That world is pure, noble, bright
And it's real, you know it
It lights up the night
That world is golden
And every atom of air shines in the dark with a million years worth of stories and wisdom, guidance, and joy
There stands a long line of men
Back to Troy, back to Hector and Priam
And man-slaying Cain
A long line of men who lived out their tale
And rose into legend leaving only their name
As lights on the headland
To show us the way
Sometimes in the night
You can sense that high realm
Piercing the sky
Raining drops out of heaven
Down through the air
And into our minds
We can flee from these moments
Hide in the night
Or lift up our eyes to heavenly skies
With courage in heart, mouths open wide
To taste drops of gold that fall from a high and ideal world that's beyond our reach
We can reach for it anyway
Stretch out and grasp at the heavens
Lest we sink in the mud
Because stagnant existence is poison, no good
Look around you
You see it
People suffer in pain
They've rejected the cosmos
Forgotten their place
They don't see the light of that heaven on high
Can't taste the gold drops that fall from the sky
So I look to the past and this question I ask
How should I live?
What's my goal?
What's my task?
What mode of being is better than this?
What works and what doesn't?
What's better, what's best?
Then I try to live up to what's best if I can
And if I can't I try anyway and failure be damned
But before you can live some idealized life
You must see and must love that heavenly light
So follow the trail of gold from on high that fall from heaven
You'll find them in stories of old on dark nights
And those stories will lead you
Into the light
