I don't want a heart of gold
Even though it won't rust
You ever dream of living in a
Nation that surrendered to her money lust
Dollar bills tell us that in God we trust
But the truth is mammon is the only god that must
Receive the full obedience of the American Brave
Land of the free looking more like slaves
Slaves to production, slaves to power
Slaves to the good life keep
The drip coming need a shower
They say make the money don't let the money make you
But how do you point it out when privilege has shaped you
You don't wanna hear it so you refuse to listen
Money, money, money get you a rollie that glistens
And the pulpit used to be a place
For the one's living in submission to God's will
But now the preachersnsneakers' outfit's
So cold that it will give you chills
Man it's cold in these Northeast Ohio winters
Another empty pew because the
Congregation member got tired of getting splinters
But not from the seat
But from the preacher speaking heat
Who used the tithe dollars for the
Gucci slippers on his feet
SHEESH
It's a pandemic, an American disease
Where the only god I follow is the one I see in me
And please, keep in mind
Yea we're aware of your grind
But when you started this thing out
Was it really about the dime
A consumer driven culture can
Easily permeate the church
A capitalistic congregation
Can stunt rebirth
Because people are viewed
Not as humans just simply resources
Man, that's Gospel distorted
The Great Commission aborted
Entrepreneurial principles stamped
With Jesus leaves the message contorted
I grew up with the preachers
Saying you can't take it with you
Now I live in the land where
Some pastors grab all they want
And if you raise a speculation
They'll say here's a tissue for your issue
if you need to cry, then you can bawl, while I stunt
These are our American Idols,
Our nation's greed permeated the church
Most the saints lived below their means
Francis of Assisi lived in poverty
And preached to the birds
But now book sales will get you mansions
Where we use the language that the
Communicator just slayed it like Manson
Sermon content shallow like MMM BOP that's Hanson
While I can get loaded just for
Proclaiming the One who paid your ransom
I said
Book sales will get you mansions
Where we use the language that the
Communicator just slayed it like manson
Sermon content shallow like "MMM BOP" that's Hanson
While I can get loaded just for
Proclaiming the One who paid your ransom
These are once again, our American idols
Don't cramp the style, midol
In the land where the paycheck is rightful
And speaking against honor is spiteful
So what are you gonna do with this information
Clap back in the comments without hesitation
Question all my finances, ask to see my statements
Put your head down in humiliation
Money ain't a sin, it's just the way we use it
If you use this as an excuse not to go to a
Church then you're foolish
Because before you point the finger
You better check the mirror
Remove the log from your own eye
So your vision's clearer
But I am calling for all of us to see it
Stop focusing on the drip
When the Living Water is leaking
Because what if our country has traded Jesus for capitalism
And exchanged peace for nationalism
If you disagree then we can have a discussion
But I think the Bride is getting
Wide and needs some liposuction
Body of Christ unhealthy
Needs some tummy-tucking
Or just to vomit out all the
False gods that she's been trusting
