The bosses who lived in those big
Houses in the hills

We had Jonas Salk's polio vaccine miracle
And we had Mazeroski's glorious baseball bat
Hitting that homer won the 1960 Series
There was no greater miracle than that

Lots of Pittsburgh men fought World War II
When they came home
There was lots to do
They got jobs in those mills
The war had been won
But when the sixties came
Something came for their sons

As the mills were closing
Jobs were going away
Politicians needed young men to stay
To fight their Asian war
Who was best to send
How about those young, job-seeking
Pennsylvania men

Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania

Some of us didn't go to Viet Nam
Some of us just took off and ran
But some of us just felt
We had to step up and be a man
But how many Pittsburgh boys
Never came home
Leaving how many Pennsylvania families
Broken and alone
