Diglossia

In linguistics, diglossia ( dy-GLOSS-ee-ə, US also dy-GLAW-see-ə) is a situation in which two dialects or languages are used (in fairly strict compartmentalization) by a single language community. In addition to the community's everyday or vernacular language variety (labeled "L" or "low" variety), a second, highly codified lect (labeled "H" or "high") is used in certain situations such as literature, formal education, or other specific settings, but not used normally for ordinary conversation. The H variety may have no native speakers but various degrees of fluency of the low speakers. In cases of three dialects, the term triglossia is used. When referring to two writing systems coexisting for a single language, the term digraphia is used. The high variety m… more »

The moonlapsed night
Brings many wars
Stepping shards of glass
Through sifting shores
And each man makes his path alone
The cast divides
To thin the hordes
And with them comes the flesh of old
Of innocence
And vitriol
Hearts made of stone
And bitter scrolls
All climb inside to save their own

Impulses of heart
These ancient of days
Tyre and Sidon
Will part along the way
Creation, mistaken
Confession on stage
A deed not undone
This final array
Arrival of saints
To mark and to mend
There's a home-crumbling coming
Just round the bend
This sign of a beast
Is left on the least
Forgotten of brethren
Of this machine

Cast iron fates
Gate fools and greats
To sit amongst the stars
To steal and breed
And please them all
With a hope for pillars
So thick they fall
In all
Twas a flock of trumpeters
In tribute
A chorus of ravens
A wraith in revue
Perched upon marble temples
By two
Beneath their feet
A floor will fall
To spawn a valley anew
This vast recluse
Still bland from use
A forgotten number of scars
A treaty born in virtue
Formed in trickery
All along
One thrust descends
Summoned forth by flood
As a hush
Took on the crowd
Words of wisdom
Kindly offered
But seldom spoke out loud

Judea, Samaria
A vanguard at sea
Snakes line the pillar
And capsize the weak
Mislead and labor
A trial defeat
A reprise of spirits
That is broken and bleak
An eternal age
Of wisdom and grace
A lost wave of souls
To chastise and chase
With a sleight of hand
Lines in these sands
Left desperate hands
With nothing to
Wash
Away

These trees have grown
Past a height of three
There's a ladder
That's hung within
Climb each rope
A new disguise
Stolen views
From atop a stone of ice

Hemlock and prayer
Brings Wormwood and siege
Abaddon guide them
The star and the key
Spurn of the shallow
Scorn of man
Never cease
A gallow of fellows
From yellow weeds meet
Solemn belief
And never discreet
Craters and keepsakes
Our last reprieve
Crescendo of chaos
The sky opens wide
All vagrants garroted
From sharpening the vine
