We are free to operate as we please within them

And the birds have flown the coup
It all operates off of cause and effect
And everyone neglects to mention
People are the ones that open gates
And someone had enough hate in their heart
To set foxes free among herbivores
But someone is also out there knocking doors
Giving out love
And letting out birds
Accountability doesn't have to be a bad thing

I am telling you to blame people
And find words that beget actions
Someone out there is drawing battle lines
And queuing up factions
And worst part is, you didn't get this docile by nature

To make money off wars
To section off cities
To take without pity
To collapse climate for personal gain
To open up fox pens knowing there would be pain
Knowing that pipelines spill
Knowing that selling crack into the ghetto kills
Knowing that the media lies
Will sew ties of loyalty
To borders of insecurity
With the goal of dis-unity
Look around you
Look at this world
The problems
The birds
The foxes
The sheep
The people who opened all of this up
And we keep telling ourselves
Shit happens
There are canaries singing in the Coal mines
Voices ringing, keeping time
With the light at the end of the tunnel
The melody funnels a cry of help to your ears
But throughout the years
You've learned to say that's just the wind

And sometimes it happens
That a birds shit on your head
And I'm not telling you to blame birds
To stare up and scream at full skies
But next time a fox nips at your heels
Ask why
Who let you out
How did you get here
And then put it back in the fucking cage
That way in your old age
You can tell your kids
Why it's safe for birds to land on the ground
Tell them that you looked around
At this crazy barnyard we call life

And found words

Tell them that you helped solve global warming
That you helped stopped wars from warring
And you even stopped assholes from driving through puddles
And tell them that as muddled as life ever gets
They should be able to stare into the pool of water
See the reflection of neither sheep nor slaughter
But of masked man
Captain of industry
Capable of plotting out history
In board rooms
And across the top of that mask
Is written
Shit happens
And for the first time in a very long time
Nobody believes it
