He rode through the crossroads without slowing down
Just breaking loose, blowing the hell out of town
Twenty years on the line with nothing to show
The fuse in his head was getting ready to go
A wife and some kids who just couldn't understand
That for his life to blow by wasn't part of his plan
He was thinking tomorrow might be a better day
But tonight he was riding, just riding it all away

She was stuck in a corner where the world let her down
Alone in the one bar in a one-horse town
Ragged old sweater and shredded blue jeans
Hard to believe she'd been her high school queen
She was wondering about when things had turned worse
Why men tore up her life, and how she thought she was cursed
She was hoping tomorrow might be a better day
But tonight she was drinking, just drinking it all away

But you and me babe, we're living better than that
Whether high on the hog or busted right flat
'Cause I got you and you know you got me
It's not the music we make, it's the sweet harmony
So let go the brakes, put the pedal to the floor
To lighten the load, throw all the shit overboard
We may never again feel what we're feeling today
So tonight let's be dancing, just be dancing it all away

It's something you can't see
Something you can't be told
Something you won't understand
Even if it knocks you cold.
But it's something you can feel
If you are true right from the start
You can know the power of a woman's love
When she can trust your heart

She was tired of being pushed and she was sick of the lies
Somehow you just knew, you could read it in her eyes
So when no one would hear what she had to say
She took her old soul and she hid it away
She didn't ask much, she just wanted a friend
To help carry her through to the dark at the end
She'd forgotten tomorrow could be a better day
So tonight she's in hiding, just hiding it all away

But you and me babe, we got it good as it gets
Flying high on each other with no safety net
Our road isn't smooth and it may not be straight
But we're travelling together, being driven by fate
So let go the brakes, put the pedal to the floor
To lighten the load, throw all the shit overboard
We may never again feel what we're feeling today
So tonight let's be dancing, just be dancing it all away
