Okay let's cook it

Remember your roots, you're an African child
Hold onto your culture, cause it's carried in the wind
Your identity is your pride, your strength
So hold onto it
You're an African Child
You're an African child
Remember your roots, you're an African child
Hold onto your culture, cause it's carried in the wind
Your identity is your pride, your strength
So hold onto it
You're an African child
You're an African child

Whenever you talk you're an African child
Don't let your language get carried in the wind
Whenever you eat you're an African child
Don't let your culture get carried in the wind
Whenever you talk you're an African child
Don't let your language get carried in the wind
Whenever you eat you're an African child
Don't let your culture get carried in the wind

Growing up in the city, life is fast-paced
Cell phones, social media, can't keep up the pace
With all the latest trends, we forget where we coming from
Our roots, our heritage, our identity undone
We forget the songs that our ancestors sang
The dances they danced, and the stories they told
We forget the language that once filled our tongues
Replacing it with slang, foreign and bold
We've been stripped of our traditions, our food, our attire
Replacing with Western ideals, that we admire
We've forgotten the taste of our traditional dishes
Replacing it with fast food, our culture vanishes
Our clothing, once so vibrant and bold
Replaced with jeans and t-shirts, so plain and cold
We've lost our uniqueness, our individuality
Blending with the crowd, losing our vitality
We need to reconnect with our heritage
Embrace our culture, let it be our leverage
To be proud of where we coming from
To keep our identity, to never succumb
We need to learn the songs our ancestors sang
The dances they danced, the stories they told
We need to speak the languages that once filled our tongue
To keep the traditions alive, forever bold
Let's teach the youth about their culture
To embrace their roots, to be proud of where they coming from

Remember your roots, you're an African child
Hold onto your culture, cause it's carried in the wind
Your identity is your pride, your strength
So hold onto it
You're an African Child
You're an African child
Remember your roots, you're an African child
Hold onto your culture, cause it's carried in the wind
Your identity is your pride, your strength
So hold onto it
You're an African Child
You're an African child

Whenever you talk you're an African child
Don't let your language get carried in the wind
Whenever you eat you're an African child
Don't let your culture get carried in the wind
Whenever you talk you're an African child
Don't let your language get carried in the wind
Whenever you eat you're an African child
Don't let your culture get carried in the wind

It is forever bold
Forever bold

Remember your roots, you're an African child
Hold onto your culture, cause it's carried in the wind
Your identity is your pride, your strength
So hold onto it
You're an African Child
You're an African child
Remember your roots, you're an African child
Hold onto your culture, cause it's carried in the wind
Your identity is your pride, your strength
So hold onto it
You're an African child
You're an African child

Whenever you talk you're an African child
Don't let your language get carried in the wind
Whenever you eat you're an African child
Don't let your culture get carried in the wind
Whenever you talk you're an African child
Don't let your language get carried in the wind
Whenever you eat you're an African child
Don't let your culture get carried in the wind

You're an African child
You're an African child
