So many moons ago I left for lands
As a young man wandered
Past vast kingdoms, desolate deserts, treacherous forests
On my travels I encountered a beauty of immeasurable degree
My weary heart re-ignited, an illusion of Eden
Belying her splendor, she accepted my unworthy being
She alone, my soul's only comfort, a life I'll nary forget

Together we walked through the fields
I caressed her in my arms
We cared no longer for the woes of this world
The skies above, the Earth below
Dared not afflict our rapture
This paradise we dreamed to last forever

But my journey it seemed could not come to an end
The soil we walked bore no harvest
With great misery I disappeared to the night
The days segue endless and oblivion taunts
From light of dawn until the sun greets dusk
I break my frame just to keep hope alive
Much time is lost, but my pockets grow heavy
Save sustenance I forward every cent
This painful voyage now draws to a close

I will wait no more

Winter I depart
My torso is frozen
But nothing will obstruct this trek
Homeward

I lie face down in the dirt
My body ravaged by the cold
So long I have suffered, so long without her
With my last ounce of strength I rise
I force myself across the strath
Adrenaline now surges, final stretch spreads the horizon

Like a thief, on this night in the blistering winds I come
Walking blind through the storm, she will sense my approach
All these years in lands afar, have I weathered such tides
Solace only contemplating return
I reach the terrace by dawn
Through the door to my love quivering inside

But her skin, once lovely, now so fragile and pale
A sunken shell filled only with sorrow
Fading light flees her eyes, she collapses in my grasp
Death's callous hand doth precede me here

Alone I walk through our fields
She lays limp in my arms
I can no longer feel my feet meet the Earth
God above or God below
No one spares me an answer
I am left here to weep forever.
