When I was a kid, six or seven
My pappy took me out of school to spend the day
And though I was grieving, he said we were leaving
For Fenway to see the Sox play
He made me a bracelet, "Sox are number one"
And though it was dumb, they won sixteen to two
He looked at my arm there, he said: "my lucky charm there
And not just the bracelet, but you"
And in that moment
The crowd cheered, I could hear the roar
In that moment
The game became something more
When I was eighteen, off at college
All of my professors got on my case
So when I'd get down, he would take me out of town
To Fenway, my favorite place
And that's how it went, all freshman year
Playing hooky for baseball, that's just what we did
And still on my arm was his lucky charm, the bracelet he gave me when I was a kid
Those were our moments
With pappy there, I was staying strong
But in those moments
I noticed that something was wrong
Sophomore year, Grammy passed away
During midterms, out of nowhere
It was clear Pappy needed me
It was pappy or college, and I had to choose
I dropped out to take care of him
The last living family I had left to lose
The person who practically raised me
If I bruise, I can't let the suffering phase me
Through it all, I try but the pressure increases
Down he falls, and who's there to pick up the pieces
I turned twenty-one, went back to school
I knew he'd get by with his living aid
But the baseball was gone, and I tried to move on
But I miss those moments we made
They won the World Series, first time in years, and
He was too sick to bring
But his lucky charm, right there on my arm
Was the reason they won the whole thing
I miss our moments
Though I've never let you know
I won't lose those moments
I won't let those memories go
