Where is she going? I have no way of knowing, but I can't let her walk alone
I've seen her changing, her mind's rearranging, but I can't let her walk alone
She's up and down, round and round, safe at home or out in town
And in my bed she's in her head, giving herself grief

And you talk about the foolish facts, I tell her stop, cut yourself some slack
And every now and then I see a smile, it goes away and it won't come back
I know that we're moving, directions still for proving. I won't look back and say I can't have known
But where else would I be than by your side So you'll see the rose I find and the girl I used to know

She's up and down, round and round, safe at home or out in town
And in my bed she's in her head, giving herself grief
And you talk about the foolish facts, I tell her stop, cut yourself some slack
And every now and then I see a smile, it goes away and it won't come back

You'd never stop trying to stop your girl from crying, which leaves me to hold her above the blue
Far beneath I'm sinking, no sleep I'm back to drinking. Oh it's a shame, what else can I do
She's up and down, round and round, safe at home or out in town
And in my bed she's in her head, giving herself grief

And you talk about the foolish facts, I tell her stop, cut yourself some slack
And every now and then I see a smile, it goes away and it won't come back
Standing in confusion, I'm finishing now with my delusion
I might not be the answer to those prayers

So go away and have some time, maybe somewhere down the line you'll find yourself and dream enough to dare.
What can I do? I'll stand right beside you if you need me to
But you don't know, so I won't have a clue
Take a seat in the time away, we'll know much more on a later day

But I don't want to let you walk alone
