Take me back to that Christmas pageant
We were five
You were Mary
I was an angel dressed in white
And we were sitting on the curb after the play, drinking cocoa
Talking 'bout what we would do someday

We were so ignorant yet ambitious back then
Practically thought we could rule the world when we were ten
Back when the only thing we seemed to care about was tryin' to listen for the reindeer hoof steps on our house

We were kids having fun
Wondering what Santa Clause was gonna bring us this year
Back then we never had fears that were bigger than the dark
We used to look up at the stars and call the plane lights reindeer
Take me back to that Christmas Pageant

First time I saw the world was in the sixth grade
I finally learned it was a scary place
I didn't want the innocence to leave just yet so I turned to my best friend and said

We're still kids, let's have some fun
Do you still believe in Santa Clause
What's he gonna bring us this year
We still don't have that many fears that are bigger than the dark
Let's go look up at the stars and try to spot the reindeer

And it's the last year I'll be a kid when Christmas rolls around
And I still don't think that I have this "adulting" figured out
I wanna be a kid forever
I wanna write to Santa Claus and tell him
"All I want for Christmas is to put growing up on pause"

Could we be kids having fun
Could we believe in Santa Clause and guess what he's gonna bring us this year
Could we go back to having no fears that were bigger than the dark
Can we look up at the stars and call the plane lights reindeer
