The DumpCo Tier System is really just about access
But I don't think the people upstairs follow it
Because if I'm Tier 1, and I still don't have any
Direct access to them
I don't know
Me and Chris started like most apparently do
In janitorial, Tier 4
It was boring, but it had a
Routine to it that would
Get you through the day
If you just kept your
Head down and did the work
We got Tier 3 access after two weeks
No fanfare or anything
Just a new number on our access tags
All we really got was access to the break room
And an extra 10 minute "break" tacked on lunch
And I figured I would be Tier 3 pretty much forever
I never had any grand plans here
But they made all four of us Tier 1 at week six
With about as much fanfare and explanation as we
Had gotten with the first upgrade
Ian and Joe were still Tier 4 at the time
Tier 1 gave us access to the entire
Downstairs portion of the DumpCo building
Which included janitorial, break room, garage, and OORT
Which is the Office Of Receipt & Transmittal
It looks a lot like a recording studio
Filled with electronic instruments and keyboards
And buttons and knobs and things of that nature
Tier 1 was also accompanied by 3 hours of
Mandatory OORT time every Wednesday at 5PM
But we got paid time and a half for it
Plus a free dinner, so none of us complained
All we had to do was
Make something happen in that 3 hours
After our first time, we found out that
The headsets they make us wear on the clock
Pipe in the audio of whatever you
Made happen in your last RT session
The first week's playback was mostly
Screeching noises and cerebral
Blips and bloops with no discernible value
So we decided to put some effort in
Just so we'd have something decent to listen to
If we were going to have to wear the
Headphones on the clock
I still find it unsettling that this all
The hasty Tier 1 upgrade
Our first RT session
Happened the same day that that
Belt showed up downstairs
The Wednesday Belt
The Voam Belt
It's hard for me to
See them as unrelated
Because there was
Something extra in the OORT
There always is
I can't put my
Finger on what it is
Maybe what it is
Can't be understood
By someone like me
But I know what I feel
And when I'm in there
I don't know
I'm not fully ME
I'm not gone exactly
But it's like I'm
Sharing my existence
Somehow
Like
Something
Else
Is
Coming
Through
Me
But
Also
With
Me
And I can't stop thinking about it
