What is a therapist?
A therapist is someone who helps you with your feelings and your emotions
Did you have a lovely shower?
Dissociating for an hour
Did you swirl all of your "bad vibes" down the drain?
You're not empathic, you're an addict
To a cliche brand of sadness
Evidenced by my existing in your brain
This is not how we agreed we would talk to ourselves
What would Jackie say?
She'd say
You're doing really well, and you've come all sorts of far
I see that you're still struggling to not be way to hard on yourself
But it's a process, no one's perfect
And you still get points for trying
Okay! So it's a work in progress
But we have a lot to work with
(That's a euphemism for my rolodex of issues)
Like my codependent, anger-ridden, hypocritical, no boundaries, abandonment, avoidant power complex
This is classic oversharing
Hey, what else is new?
But I'm working on my self-talk and it goes like this
Oh, you're doing really well, and you've come all sorts of far
I see that you're still struggling to not be way too hard on yourself
But it's a process, no one's perfect
And you still get points for trying
As long as you're trying then you're
Find me a therapist who calls me on my bullshit
But who does it really nicely
And who also takes my health insurance
Dissociating in the shower
Plucking petals off of flowers
Or writing cringey songs about your illness
These are all valid ways of coping
When you're waiting on a list
With folks like me who need to see a therapist
What would Jackie say?
She'd say
