The sun's going down, the moon's a balloon
I'm going nowhere fast, arriving way too soon
And here the whole time I was thinking I was showing up fashionably late

And here I am, yep I'm here
But just where that is is not entirely clear
A current theme I've been developing perhaps I should elaborate

Even if it's not supposed to go this way
It sure appears to be the way that it went
Although sometimes you just have to admit
That you have no idea what it all meant

Was it the universe unfolding as it should
As the facts would seem to indicate
Or will it in the end prove to be
Something iffy that I ate

It feels to me like I've fallen out of sync again
Can't seem to stumble on a way to get back in
I've made adjustments and reconfigurations but it appears to no avail

My faculties are failing me
Just as time is overtaking me
Is this the way old Jonah felt when he got swallowed up by that whale

Or maybe that's just the way that it goes
It sure appears to be the way that it went
Sometimes you just have to admit
That you have no idea what it all meant

As the facts would seem to indicate
Or will it in the end turn out to be
Something iffy that I ate

You can only go halfway into that dark old forest
Then you start coming out the other side
Yeah that's real good to know when you're walking round in circles lost

And it doesn't get you back the breadcrumbs that squirrels snarfed up
Just as fast as they were dropped
So yeah fat lotta good a gem of wisdom like that does

Maybe that's just the way that it goes
