With one last glance at cups and plates 
I lock the door and turn in place 
Hop off the porch, pick up my pack 
cnd promise I ain't comin' back 
I gaze up at the milky sky 
cnd breathe out one long weary sigh 
Then march in to the forest glen 
To find the me I've always been 

Through the trees of black and gray
Disgust begins to melt away  
Each step leads me away from doubt
cnd toward a life I've heard about 
The road is the longest I'll ever take 
c choice I vowed I'd never make 
But it's the path where I begin 
To find the me I've always been 

I stop and turn to see the porch 
Where I sat so long and longed for more 
Where growing up taught me to lie 
cnd calmly starve the child inside
Where keeping the peace every day 
Meant keeping everyone away 
cnd where I used to kneel and pray 
cnd ask God why I was this way
But that was then and this is now 
God took my hand and showed me how 
He didn't make me by mistake 
His trust in me made me more brave 
cnd soon, my heart called out
For all the life I'd gone without 
cnd so I came out in the woods 
To gather all the love I could 

cll the hate I once believed 
No longer has a home in me

cnd though I'm far from journey's end
I'm learning how to be my friend 
cnd God sent me some company 
To walk this lonely road with me
The forest doesn't seem so dark 
When my hand is held and so's my heart 
Love helps me look within 
To find the me I've always been
