You want to save 'em from their heartbreaks
You've gotta let 'em make their own mistakes
You could prepare them for the world you knew
But now you haven't got a damn clue
Take a minute and realize how every negative is amplified
It's a prison, we should go outside
The algorithm isn't on our side

I can't expect you to know I'll protect you
No matter where you trek to, I'll come collect you
I promise I will be wherever you need me
And that's a lifetime guarantee
And you get all that for free

I never was spiritual, now everything is virtual
I'm trying to write a simple song
Thought it was easy, I was dead wrong
Somebody hip me to it somehow, I get the drift if it's real loud
It's pretty nifty when you're young and proud
But I've been fifty for a while now

I can't expect you to know I'll protect you
No matter where you trek to, I'll come collect you
I promise I will be wherever you need me
And that's a lifetime guarantee
And you get all that for free

I'm not gonna even know if it hurts
When my heart stops beating
I'll be busy letting go, making sure
That you won't be needing me
You won't be needing me

I know we're never gonna turn back time
Can't put the genie back, I know, I've tried
One nation indivisible is two nations and they're miserable
We're more connected than we've ever been
But more selective of the things we're seeing
We're never gonna change the way we think
If every argument's a slam dink

I can't expect you (I can't expect you)
To know I'll protect you (to know I'll protect you)
No matter where you trek to (no matter where you trek to)
I'll come collect you (I will come collect you)
I promise I will be (I promise I will be)
Wherever you need me (wherever you need me)
And that's a lifetime guarantee (that's a lifetime guarantee)
And you get all that for free
From me you'll see
