I always hoped when I was older I'd be stronger and wiser
Livin' in a mansion  enjoyin' my retirement
But life doesn't give us what we want the most
It gives us more of what we are and that's the way that it goes  so

As I travel further down this road that I chose
I think about the life I've led  all the highs and the lows
The setbacks and the mishaps  the trials an' tribulations
The moments that were dope  plus the juvenile frustrations

The times when I was present  an' the states of elation
Like the birth of my first child  an' practicing meditation
They say it's two steps forward an' one step back
An' when I weigh it all up I'd say that I agree wit' that analogy

At times my life felt like a Greek tragedy
Where I'm the protagonist in a state of pain an' agony
But other times when I was chillin' the most
I felt the inner harmony that comes wit' goin' wit' the flow

It can be a lot to process  lookin' for the meanin
Tryin' o' gain as much knowledge as I can while I'm still breathin
See I'm on a learning journey just like ev'rybody else
Doin' my best to understand the lessons that this life has dealt me

As I watch my kids grow up  an' I try to explain

My mother always had higher designs in mind for me

Relentless grind o' the machine keep us in line
Penalties for not bein' on time  our servitude defines us
Blinds us to who we really are

Still we acquiesce to a system that sees us
As statistics on a spreadsheet  demeans an' depletes us
