I saw her naked on the shore Shedding her skin as Celtic lore
And I watched as she danced away from the sea Then stole her skin and she married me
The days turned to years, she didn't complain Nor know her skin was locked away
In the back of a chest with a key on a string But I saw her longing for the sea

And with salty stains upon the cheeks
Till the summer day it takes its leave

The morning I left on a boat o'er the sea To gather the fish for us to eat
And lifting my arm instinctively To a naked neck without the string
A golden light glint a golden gleam That caught her eye through a curtain seam
And with trembling hands she went to sea If the golden gift could set her free

The glass and the fire spread beneath my feet The chest was gone but she left the string
Days turned to weeks but all the same Once my hearth now smoldering flames
And with every bottle calling my name And the dark black seas beckoning waves
