Sawyer Brown

Sawyer Brown is an American country music band founded in 1981 in Apopka, Florida, by five members of country pop singer Don King's road band: Bobby Randall (guitar) and Jim Scholten (bass guitar), both from Midland, Michigan; Joe Smyth (drums), Gregg "Hobie" Hubbard (keyboards), and Mark Miller (lead vocals). After King retired in 1981, the five members decided to form a band, first choosing the name Savanna before switching to Sawyer Brown, also the name of a road near where they practiced. more »

Burning up the highway Florida to Tennessee
Cuttin' out a path like a trucker flashin' high beams
Forty years of road doggin blurrin' like a daydream
Screaming down the interstate, lightning in the bloodstream
Time flies by like a bullet down the train track
Miles and miles under this ol' hat

Load in another town
Leave it all on the stage
Turn it up, tear it down
Turn 'em on, turn the page
Wichita to Kansas City
Amarillo, Albuquerque
Break down, up and running
Arizona in a hurry
Worn out, throw it back
Beatin' out a heart attack
Miles and miles under this ol' hat

I was a fast car coming down out of control
Now I'm the last train running tryin' to loosen my load
Breaking out of Nashville, chasing a sound
Not a clue or knowing even where I'm bound
But you never need to wonder where I'm at
You can find me hanging out
Under this ol' hat

Soul shaking, ripping, roaring
California star gazing
Trailblazing, chance taking
Rain making, lighter raising
Subs thumping, wheel squealing
Show stopping, scene stealing
Heading south, long haul
Muscle Shoals, how you feeling?
Hit the road, hit the sack
Take it in and play it back
Miles and miles under this ol' hat

I was a fast car coming down out of control
Now I'm the last train running tryin' to loosen my load
Breaking out of Nashville, chasing a sound
Not a clue or knowing even where I'm bound
But you never need to wonder where I'm at
You can find me hanging out
Under this ol' hat

Well, God bless Charlie Pride
James Brown, CDB
The real writers, ride or diers
Way up in the cheap seats
The road crew, the day makers
Runners, gunners, ticket takers
Horse trading, pulling favors
Front of house, pushing faders
10-4, copy that
Moving forward, flashing back
Miles and miles under this ol' hat

I was a fast car coming down out of control
Now I'm the last train running tryin' to loosen my load
Breaking out of Nashville, chasing a sound
Not a clue or knowing even where I'm bound
But you never need to wonder where I'm at
You can find me hanging out

I've been running miles and miles
Miles and miles, miles and miles
Under this ol' hat, under this ol' hat
I've been hanging out under this ol' hat
