My cousin died last week
Withdrawal of the worst kind
No one's fault like a first time
But I'm still on that first line
It hit like a jelly fish sting
Calm but sharp with the pain,
Shocked with disbelief, it'll hurt like this
When it's someone your age
Does it matter how he died?
Cause it matters how we cry now
Will it be together or alone
Looking at my phone
Reading his obituary
In the dark when I got home
I see his smile, I see trauma too
That was passed down from a child to a child
Humor glazed over prisons of pain
Sittin deep within us all
I'm glad that he's now in the arms of The Way
But it still breaks my heart
We can see chains of stories untold
Ever since the day we were born
Tyrants are gone but fear carries on
The wounds in us still sore
Soft spoken kind folk
High achieving despite the pain
Sometimes suffering is what we need
To make a masochist awake
One generation got beat up daily
Second stunted by growing in fear
Third is away out of superstition
But fourth'll be witness to change here
I am not accusatory rather I am crying for you
We are bleeding out the eyes
For the purpose that you went through
Must be the reason why I needed art
Like the others in my group
Get pulled inside out from all the stories
That never felt true
Kids told to say that "I am great"
Regardless of inner states
But it's all becoming clear
That we can't bear it in any way
The future now is here
And loving and ready for embrace
I have faith that every day
The healing is in our shared space
Faith that every day
That tired, old hell's disappearing
I send my love, I'm always here
If you need me then I'm appearing
I'll keep my courage, keep my faith
And keep your heart inside me safe
