Pitter Patter

M.I.U. Album is the 22nd studio album by American rock band the Beach Boys, released on September 25, 1978. Characterized for its easy-listening sound, the album was produced by Al Jardine and touring member Ron Altbach during one of the most acrimonious periods in the band's history. It sold poorly, peaking at number 151 in the U.S, and was met with confused reactions from critics and fans. The album was created to fulfill contractual obligations to Reprise Records after the group had shelved Adult/Child. It was largely recorded in late 1977 at its namesake: Maharishi International University in Fairfield, Iowa. What the hell am I doing up here
Something feels so wrong
I know I don't belong
But did I ever
And if I did then would it be just out of pity
Or would you be laughing with me
All these mental gymnastics
Are pretty fantastic
But I just wanna
Feel like myself again

Ohhhh
Woahhhh
What Ohhhhwoahhh

Having big dreams is catching up to me
I always seem to flee from reality
I never thought my vision was so flawed
When everything's not
How it's supposed to be
I tend to find hope in the fantasy
But I'm crippled by the possibility
Of being a fraud

Then again I never thought
That I'd get this far
Writing subpar lyrics
Over bad guitar
Everyone must've left their tomatoes
In their car
I see the hook coming from backstage
But I have a couple more songs to play
If you all want I guess I can just go

Cause I've been feeling like two kids
In a trench coat
I'm gonna get thrown off of the space boat
If they find out I'm faking then I'm toast
Gotta get a grip
Oh I gotta get a grip
On this goddamn imposter syndrome
Cause it's making my head wanna explode
As the chemicals start to erode
All that's left of a nice young kid
Is just a skeleton that could've been great

Looks like it is too late
Solidified my fate
I convinced myself that I
Can't be someone else
And now I'm stuck playing the same old Games
And losing to my brain
How could a naive child
Who's skills are only mild
Ever make it
It might take a while but I think I can
Wait

Oh yes I can't wait
Cause if I can still smile
Then I still got some sanity left
And I'm not taking the bait
Nor am I getting off stage
Yeah I know I don't belong
That's why I wrote a song
about how I've been

Feeling like two kids in a trench coat
I'm gonna get thrown off of the space boat
If they find out I'm faking then I'm toast
Gotta get a grip
Oh I gotta get a grip
On this goddamn imposter syndrome
Cause it's making my head wanna explode
As the chemicals start to erode
All that's left of a nice young kid
Is just a skeleton that could've been great
