I just want to tell you What I believe And know to be true Whoa, whoa Now please don't take my word Just ask your Father above Whoa, because I know this is true I know That God is our loving Heavenly Father I know That we are all His sons and daughters I know That He, the Son, and the Holy Spirit Are three separate people Yeah you bet I believe it I know The gospel blesses families I know That I can be with mine for eternity I know That God has called prophets throughout all time I know They had authority to preach and baptize I know That Christ set up His church while He was on earth I know That He died for me what a glorious birth I know After He and the apostles were gone People changed the doctrine People changed the song But I know That there is a prophet today The Lord's restored the truth And He's restored the way Now let me tell you the story About that prophet who died for God's glory Joseph Smith was a boy Looking for what was right He didn't know what church to join Yeah this was his plight He studied it out in his heart And in his mind Then he turned to the Bible Hoping that he could find The answer He came to the Epistle of James Yeah he read a verse And he never was the same It said, if any of you lack wisdom Let him ask of God That hit Joseph hard And he finally saw That he needed to pray So he went to a place Where he could be alone He knelt with a solemn face As Joseph prayed In his own words, he said "I saw a pillar of light Exactly over my head Above the brightness Of the sun Which descended gradually Until it fell upon me When the light Rested upon me I saw two personages Whose brightness and glory Defy all description Standing above me in the air" This was Joseph's account It really happened to him there The Father said "This is my beloved Son" And then They told Joseph He should join none Of the churches Because they were all wrong They had bits of the notes But didn't have the whole song So They told Joseph What They would do They'd call him to be A prophet of truth To restore the true church Without any flaws I know this is real The restoration of God's laws I just want to tell you What I believe And know to be true Whoa, whoa Now please don't take my word Just ask your Father above Whoa, because I know this is true Joseph told people Of his heavenly vision But most didn't believe him And treated him with derision A few years later An angel came and gave him a mission Translate an ancient record Into English from reformed Egyptian The Book of Mormon Is what this record is called It's another testament of Christ Now please don't be appalled People hate it, people mock it But still, its words are true I know it cause I've read it Then I prayed and knew Joseph was taken And thrown in a jail A mob broke in and killed him And thought this nonsense would fail But the work of God moves forward No unhallowed hand can stop it I'm a disciple of Christ I will never quit So my invitation to y'all Is to read the Book of Mormon Pray and ask If it's true at all I know that if you do Then the Father will respond Because He loves all of us With Him, we have a special bond I just want to tell you What I believe And know to be true Whoa, whoa Now please don't take my word Just ask your Father above Whoa, because I know this is true I know this is true I know this is true I know this is true I know this is true
