I used to be chosen To be A faithful Mormon missionary I spent two years of my life To convince others of a lie It was the milestone of a Mormon To go and preach the true sermons So I did what everyone expected And God's will, I accepted But now I ask myself Why did I go out and spend Pointless days and nights to no end I hated most of that time And there was even a time I asked to go home But then I was told I was doing great So I guess i had to stay I made it to the finish line I had to be the example I had to lead the right way God wanted me there I just had to suck it up One of the ways I coped Was writing raps of mission stuff But that wasn't enough to Block out the hard days Of doing the Lord's work Even when I was tired It didn't matter My duty I could not shirk No escape from the dark maze My thoughts were filled Of the day I could go home I was supposed to stand all amazed I couldn't speed up the metronome When I finally came home It was with a sigh of relief Now my life could resume But eventually, not my belief I used to be chosen To be A faithful Mormon missionary I spent two years of my life To convince others of a lie It was the milestone of a Mormon To go and preach the true sermons So I did what everyone expected And God's will, I accepted But now I am free Now I have chosen my path And life is clearer than before I can do whatever I choose I am free; I can't believe it My wings can finally soar My choices are now mine A church no longer has that power I can be who I am And I no longer need a god every hour The church called me to serve Now I call the church to get what they deserve They need to be accountable The whole world needs to observe Look at the countless lives they have affected Even though I'm a part of them no more They need to be corrected Standing up for the right is at my core I choose to raise my voice For the damage religion can cause For the people it destroys All in the name of God I was chosen to be A beacon of what I thought was the true light And now I'm chosen to be A beacon of doing what's right It was the milestone of a Mormon To go and preach the true sermons So I did what everyone expected And God's will, I accepted But now I can choose for myself
