Black Jack Davey

"The Raggle Taggle Gypsy" (Roud 1, Child 200), is a traditional folk song that originated as a Scottish border ballad, and has been popular throughout Britain, Ireland and North America. It concerns a rich lady who runs off to join the gypsies (or one gypsy). Common alternative names are "Gypsy Davy", "The Raggle Taggle Gypsies O", "The Gypsy Laddie(s)", "Black Jack David" (or "Davy") and "Seven Yellow Gypsies". Windswept girl in a windswept desert
Combat boots and a jumpsuit getup
How'd you escape that word generic?
I guess I'll never know

I was brought to you on the waves of a come-up
Drawn to you, your warmth like summer
Your siren song as old as the fossils of this ancient sea
And I wonder what we could be

Your faux fur coat, my clenching jaw
They both set the scene
For a movie straight off the silver screen
Your faux fur coat, my gleaming eyes
Betray the truth beneath the lies

In the darkness we wander onwards
Hand in hand with our bad behaviour
I kneel for you like you're my lord and saviour
Hallowed be thy name
Jane, Jane

Your faux fur coat, my clenching jaw
They both set the scene
For a movie straight off the silver screen
Your faux fur coat, my gleaming eyes
Betray the truth beneath the lies

And we could speculate retrospectively
We could theorise indefinitely
Was there something there?
Was there something there?

Your faux fur coat, my clenching jaw
They both set the scene
For a movie straight off the silver screen
Your faux fur coat, my gleaming eyes
Betray the truth beneath the lies
