That stretch as far and as wide as the sea itself
Some are simple with clear morality lessons
Others are more complex with muddy meanings
Then there are the few that fall into both
Today we share a story unheard of the Alaskan Sea
"The Gem"
The legend of the Gem begins with a sound
Some say that only those burdened with hungry ears and empty souls
Can hear The Gems calling.

It starts as an itch at first
A drone of noise until it deafens their greedy ears

As you draw near
The call begins to clear and be unforgettable
It's said to sound like an enchanting melody
Guiding the sailor to their wonderful dream destination
Or their impending doom

To some it's a beautiful sound
Only revealing the destiny of those truly gifted
To most others the Gem is the choir of those they loved
Both dead and alive
It's in those final moments they realize there's no going back
No matter how positive or negative the outcome

This story is about a man
Who claims to hear that very call after learning about the loss of a close friend
Who went chasing after that very same call
Is this a man meant for greatness?
Or does he belong to the bottom of the sea
Like the rest of those in search of glory and greed?

It's a complicated story
