Mama! I see an empty swing - can I go Where? I don't see Right there Mama! Can I go Yeah, okay run, hurry before someone else grabs it. But I gotta stay right here, so keep an eye on me -deal And he's off. Up, up and away He's a three foot bucket of joy Eyes wide with wonder Nothing can stop that boy No fear of the thunder He's got life oozing out And giggles to spare A taste of adventure everywhere We make a perfect pair Nothing can stop us I call him Bubbles He calls me Mama Hi Bubbles! I see you Bubbles, my pet name for Beckett. No idea why I chose Bubbles really, but he's been my Bubbles pretty much since day one God, I love him He's 7, and we moved back to New York just a few months ago Booked a one way ticket East And we never looked back Put the life we knew In a moving truck and a backpack Ya trade a big backyard in a midwest house For a tiny apartment way uptown Nothing could bring us down If we had each other Cause I had Bubbles And he had his Mother But oh my God, when we were getting ready to move, everyone back home was losing their minds. You would have thought we were going to the front lines or something So, Jess, what are you gonna do there Well, I'm gonna live, obviously Yeah, and how are you gonna do that, huh? You're a single-mom now, you know that, right Yes I do I just think it's gonna be too hard. You can't do all of this on your own. It's not all about you anymore. You're a mom. You have to think of Beckett I am. Look, I'm a mess here. That's not what I want for us. I have to go and try, even if I fail Everyone's got an answer Everyone thinks they know They wanna solve it and fix it But I'm gonna risk it I know we've got to go Ok, I'm getting ahead of myself. I really didn't want to go into all that, yet Hey. Let's go back to the park Yeah, that's the vibe That boy took to NYC Like a fish to the water An ocean to explore To play and to wander He had faith in his blood And grit in his bones I knew we could make it on our own I'd build a brand new home Free from the drama Cause I had Bubbles And he had his Mama He thinks you rule the world You're Super-Mom who saves the day Life might be a little uncoventional Who needs normal anyway Who knows what the day might hold What dragons I'll have to slay I'm on the tip of my toes But for him it's just Saturday So, yeah. We're good. Hold on, I just gotta check, my phone real fast...nothing We're supposed to meet...there's so many people here today, it's hard to see Oh, a homeless man. Dirty, a mess, asking for money Sorry. I don't have anything I'm about to turn to Beckett, when I see another homeless man coming my way His walking is labored but with purpose. He's not as dirty as the man before, but really worn out He's got on old clothes under a coat that's way too big for him And a cinched belt holding him altogether And his face. He walks right past, doesn't ask for money I remember the sandwich Um, hey. Hi. I have this extra sandwich. Do you want it It's turkey and stuffing and cranberry sauce, kinda like Thanksgiving We stood five feet apart in silence for what felt like forever, locked eyes and stiff bodies My arm extended with the offering Adam. Just take it, please He finally shoves it into a grungy backpack. Beckett sees this and comes running Daddy Then he swoops him up and carries him back to the swings He thinks you rule the world You're Super-Dad who saves the day Life might be a little unconventional Who needs normal anyway Who knows what the day might hold What dragons I'll have to slay I'm on the tip of my toes But for him it's just Saturday Cool-cool-cool-cool-cool, you're fine It's just Saturday for the other moms on the playground And I miss those days before everything became hellbound But when I see that boy happy as can be With a homeless guy playing on the swings A man who used to be quite the lover and charmer I called him Husband He calls him Father He thinks you rule the world You're Super-Mom who saves the day Dad might be a little unconventional Who needs normal anyway Who knows what the day might hold What dragons I'll have to slay I'm on the tip of my toes And there's a thousand unknowns And there's a lump in my throat But for him it's just Saturday It's just Saturday
