The Realist

The Realist was a magazine of "social-political-religious criticism and satire", intended as a hybrid of a grown-ups version of Mad and Lyle Stuart's anti-censorship monthly The Independent. Edited and published by Paul Krassner, and often regarded as a milestone in the American underground or countercultural press of the mid-20th century, it was a nationally-distributed newsstand publication as early as 1958. I don't need the alcohol, the drugs, the women, or the dollar
Cuz all of them are gods and when compared their awful
Cuz how many Gods came down from heaven to sever the ties of Satan or Hades there's not one not ever
Where was money when the rent was raised up to the heavens
Where were women when you were stuck deep in depression
Where were the drugs when the money was lacking
Where was the liquor when your girl sent you packing
Where were the cars when you had no gas and
Where were your possessions when you heard the rapture I'm just getting started
