Pat Parker

Pat Parker (born Patricia Cooks; January 20, 1944 – June 17, 1989) was an American poet and activist. Both her poetry and her activism drew from her experiences as an African-American lesbian feminist. Her poetry spoke about her tough childhood growing up in poverty, dealing with sexual assault, and the murder of a sister. At eighteen, Parker was in an abusive relationship and had a miscarriage after being pushed down a flight of stairs. After two divorces she came out as lesbian "embracing her sexuality" and said she was liberated and "knew no limits when it came to expressing the innermost parts of herself".Parker participated in political activism and had early involvement with the Black Panther Party and Black Women's Revolutionary Council, and formed the… more »

Watch: New Singing Lesson Videos Can Make Anyone A Great Singer

Every second was electric when we were together
Picked you up in your apartment light as a feather
Wishin' we were kissin' and gettin' bothered
Holdin' you close on the couch, listen to the proverb
Let sleepin' dogs lie, he heard that a few times
So come on, don't make me beg now
On my knees, pretty please,
Please increase the volume
I want you, it's hard to
Conclude
This engagement without a proper ending
What a wonderful way of sendin' off
Our goodbyes
Lockin' eyes
Then our lips, fingertips
All over each other, let's have one another
Could I take a toke of your smoke

Picture a cold, cold night in Chicago
Can't hold in my excitement, 'cause I know
I get to see you, I get to breathe too
It's heavy at home
Girl, you know how it goes

Oh no, all alone again
Count to ten and breathe in the stench
Try to think happy thoughts before this body rots
And becomes one with the earth
Do they see me
Do they even care
Join the march
By the ides
Of july
All shall be resolved

Hey little lady, I'm here for you
Just as long as you adhere to
My every whim and rule
F*ck that, f*ck you
I'm too
Busy to deal with all that stupid bullshit
When I feel like I don't deserve to eat
I don't deserve to sleep
I deserve torture
Yeah I want more- sure
But nobody notices me at my best
F*ck

Picture a cold, cold night in Chicago
Can't hold in my excitement, 'cause I know
I get to see you, I get to breathe too
It's heavy at home
Girl, you know how it goes
