It's your boy RaSean I ain't gonna do too much on this one Just putting pen to paper Thinking out loud, really You know I was just thinking And I decided to write a letter Hopefully you'll see it And you'll open it And you'll feel better You're always in your head So I just grabbed a piece of paper Here's a letter to myself Hopefully you'll see some things later Dear me Probably sound weird for you to hear this Reading back my own thoughts It's like an out of body experience Or at least that's what it feels like Cause sometimes it don't feel right Letting my thoughts conduct themselves I'm like a visitor in my own mind And you're no stranger to battle You've had as many as your blessings Dodging death since your conception Now that's heavenly protection And nothing shall win or prosper Neither enemy nor their weapon You must got a calling on your life Thank God above in heaven And thank God for momma She was strict and it's good you listened She kept you out of trouble So that you wouldn't become a statistic Dodged more bullets than kids should see More blood shed than capacity Now you downplay what you survived When others shed tears just listening That's not good You're desensitized in more ways than one There's a reason you should laugh After coming face to face with a gun You were young As a matter of fact you still are Putting so much weight on your shoulders I'm surprised you ain't crushed under the bar But thankfully that's sports Unfortunately scoliosis But God had a plan That's how music became your focus You were young, talented, and gifted But placed your worth on accomplishments Cause how else would you receive love and attention Without proving you deserved it Can't even accept compliments Cause you never feel that you've earned it Anytime you were given a gift You tried to find a way to return it Worked so hard to be flawless Cause you're nothing if not perfect Plus anytime you messed up There was someone making sure you heard it You taught yourself what a man is Because no other man did Decided to be an example Of what you were never granted Stand in, commit, don't submit, just win And never let them see what's within, Just win But when you lose, don't forget And don't live with regret And always demand respect Don't lose, don't cry, be tough, that's it Don't wear your heart on your sleeve Or someone will break it again And don't accept help from anyone Cause that makes you less of a man You convince yourself you're weak For being vulnerable or showing emotions Plus if you share, they won't care Or worse, you'll be a burden That's detrimental and that's toxic But who's to tell you any different So half smiles and anger Where your only two expressions You overthink so much That you struggle in peace and quiet Always saying, "I'm good" But half the time you really be lying You've got scars And it's okay for you to admit that Neglecting a bruise won't make you forget Where you got hurt at You're your own biggest critic And you're tough on yourself, I get it But you harbor a lot of shame and condemnation When you're convicted So high on your standards You acting like you're better than God He forgives you but you can't forgive yourself Now tell me that ain't odd Let God work on you And get out of your own way You don't understand what he's doing now But you'll look back one day And what you feel right now The discomfort is growing pains Gotta acknowledge your wounds So they can heal the right way So when you read these words Just know that they're constructive A poem, a rhyme, a rap They ain't the only ways to be expressive You can trust other people Don't rely on just yourself Give yourself some grace And tend to your inner health And share what you feel within It's okay to share a tear No matter how long it's been Five days, or in your case five years Cherish these people that God brought into your life And trust God to turn all your lows into your highs And it's okay to love No matter how much you've been hurt Tell someone I love you But tell it to you first Sincerely yours truly I just went and wrote this letter Hopefully you'll see it And you'll open it and feel better And I hope it all makes sense And that you catch some things that matter If not, just keep reading And read along with me this prayer Dear Heavenly Father I just want to thank you Because more than anything I am I'm blessed and highly thankful I submit these things to you Acknowledging all my wounds Only you can heal them So I put my trust in you Help me to be a man With a heart after your own So I can help myself and others And bring glory to your throne Thank you for your blessings And your gifts and your plan I thank you for my life In Jesus' name, amen
